IHS Towers – Radio planning by a shared infrastructure company
Customer
IHS Towers is Africa’s leading mobile infrastructure provider, owning and operating more than 23,000 towers and guaranteeing 99.9% network uptime reliability to a range of African mobile network operators.
Challenge
IHS required a solution that supported all radio technologies, multiple carriers and complex antenna systems, and capable of analyzing large data sets, with over 750,000 cells in some countries. Key for IHS was our ability to optimize network designs and merge the networks of multiple operators into a single shared network, creating a lower total cost of ownership.
TEOCO’s Solution
TEOCO provided ASSET, with a complete set of technology licenses, and MYRIAD, for highly accurate propagation modeling.
Value Generated
IHS leverages the full capabilities of ASSET to enable more efficient and effective tower-sharing agreements among its multiple African mobile operator customers. Using ASSET, IHS has merged sites for several operators, reducing CAPEX and OPEX, while maintaining and guaranteeing quality of service for its customers.
“Tower sharing agreements deliver significant value to MNOs and significantly reduce the OPEX and CAPEX tied to owning physical infrastructure,” said William Saad, Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer of IHS. “By partnering with TEOCO and by leveraging its ASSET tool, we are able to safeguard and extend the inherent benefits of tower sharing by ensuring our MNO customers can derive the maximum possible benefits from our infrastructure.”
